Question 118: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
In a meeting, the map of a village was placed in such a manner that south-east becomes north, north-east becomes west and so on. What will south become ?
AnswerThe answer is (b).
South-east becomes north, so the map has been turned by 135 degrees anticlockwise (south-east is at 135 degrees from north, north at 0). Check against the second clue: north-east (45 degrees) goes to 45 - 135 = -90, which is west, as stated. South (180 degrees) goes to 180 - 135 = 45 degrees, which is north-east. Remember: find the turn from one clue, verify it with another, then apply it.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) North is where south-east goes, not south.
- (b) Right: south becomes north-east.
- (c) North-west is where east goes.
- (d) West is where north-east goes.
