Question 106: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
P, Q, R and S are four men. P is the oldest but not the poorest. R is the richest but not the oldest. Q is older than S but not than P or R. P is richer than Q but not than S. The four men can be ordered (descending) in respect of age and richness, respectively, as
AnswerThe answer is (b).
Age: P is the oldest. Q is younger than both P and R but older than S, and R is not the oldest, so the order is P, R, Q, S. Wealth: R is the richest. P is richer than Q but not richer than S, so S is richer than P, who is richer than Q: R, S, P, Q. So the age order is PRQS and the richness order is RSPQ.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Age order PQRS puts Q above R, but Q is younger than R.
- (b) Right: age P, R, Q, S and richness R, S, P, Q.
- (c) Richness RSQP puts Q above P, but P is richer than Q.
- (d) Age order PRSQ puts S above Q, but Q is older than S.
