Question 56: History and Culture
Which one of the following began with the Dandi March?
aHome Rule Movement
bNon-Cooperation Movement
cCivil Disobedience Movement
dQuit India Movement
AnswerThe answer is (c).
Gandhi began the Dandi March from Sabarmati Ashram on 12 March 1930 to break the salt law at Dandi on the Gujarat coast on 6 April. This opened the Civil Disobedience Movement. The Home Rule Movement (1916) was led by Tilak and Besant, the Non-Cooperation Movement (1920-22) began after the Khilafat issue, and Quit India started in 1942.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Home Rule began in 1916, long before Dandi.
- (b) Non-Cooperation began in 1920.
- (c) Right: the Dandi March began the Civil Disobedience Movement.
- (d) Quit India began in 1942.
