Question 45: Economy and Social Development
Which one of the following brings out the publication called "Energy Statistics" from time to time ?
AnswerThe answer is (d).
Energy Statistics is a regular publication of the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO), the statistical office under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The CSO has since been merged into the National Statistical Office (2019), which now brings it out. The Planning Commission (replaced by NITI Aayog in 2015) does policy planning, not this publication.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) The Central Power Research Institute does testing and research on power equipment.
- (b) The Planning Commission made plans; it did not publish Energy Statistics.
- (c) Power Finance Corporation lends to the power sector.
- (d) Right: the Central Statistical Organisation publishes Energy Statistics.
Worth knowing: The CSO was merged into the National Statistical Office in 2019, so option (d) now names a body that no longer exists by that name.
