Question 36: Geography
Which one of the following pairs is not correctly matched ? City — River
aBerlin : Rhine
bLondon : Thames
cNew York : Hudson
dVienna : Danube
AnswerThe answer is (a).
Berlin stands on the Spree (with the Havel nearby), not the Rhine, so Berlin : Rhine is the pair that is wrongly matched. The Rhine flows through Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands, passing cities such as Cologne and Bonn. London is on the Thames, New York on the Hudson and Vienna on the Danube.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Not correctly matched: Berlin is on the Spree, not the Rhine.
- (b) Correct: London lies on the Thames.
- (c) Correct: New York City lies at the mouth of the Hudson.
- (d) Correct: Vienna lies on the Danube.
