Question 3: International Relations and Current Affairs
To integrate cultural leaders into its meetings, which one of the following gives the "Crystal Award"?
AnswerThe answer is (d).
The Crystal Award is given by the World Economic Forum at its annual meeting in Davos to artists and cultural leaders for using their work to improve the state of the world. The idea is to bring cultural figures into a gathering otherwise dominated by business and political leaders. APEC, the World Bank's IBRD and the WHO are economic or health bodies and do not run an award of this kind, so remember Crystal Award with Davos.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) APEC is a trade and economic cooperation forum of Pacific Rim economies; it gives no Crystal Award.
- (b) IBRD is the World Bank's lending arm; it does not honour cultural leaders.
- (c) WHO deals with public health and has no award of this name.
- (d) The World Economic Forum gives the Crystal Award at Davos to cultural leaders.
