Question 130: Geography
Consider the following pairs: Famous place : Country
- 1.Cannes : France
- 2.Davos : Denmark
- 3.Roland Garros : The Netherlands
Which of the pairs given above is/are correctly matched ?
AnswerThe answer is (a).
Only pair 1 is correct. Cannes, famous for its film festival, is in France. Davos, where the World Economic Forum meets, is in Switzerland, not Denmark. Roland Garros, the venue of the French Open tennis tournament, is in Paris, France, not the Netherlands.
- 1. Cannes is in France.
- 2. Davos is in Switzerland, not Denmark.
- 3. Roland Garros is in Paris, France.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 2 is not correct, (b), (c) and (d) go: each of them includes 2.
What you needed to know: Davos is in Switzerland, not Denmark.
Only (a) is left. You didn’t need statements 1 or 3.
This follows an unofficial answer: UPSC has not published its key for this year, and if that answer is wrong, so is this path.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Right: only Cannes-France is correct.
- (b) Wrong: Davos is in Switzerland.
- (c) Wrong: Davos and Roland Garros are mismatched.
- (d) Wrong: pairs 2 and 3 are mismatched.
