Question 48: Geography
Which of the following minerals are found in a natural way in the State of Chhattisgarh?
- 1.Bauxite
- 2.Dolomite
- 3.Iron ore
- 4.Tin
Select the correct answer using the code given below:
AnswerThe answer is (d).
All four minerals occur naturally in Chhattisgarh. The State has rich iron ore at Bailadila in Bastar and at Dalli-Rajhara, bauxite in Surguja and Jashpur, dolomite in Bilaspur, and tin ore in the Bastar region. Chhattisgarh is among India's leading mineral States, with coal, limestone and iron ore as its major resources.
- 1. Bauxite occurs in Surguja and Jashpur.
- 2. Dolomite is found in the Bilaspur area.
- 3. Iron ore is mined at Bailadila and Dalli-Rajhara.
- 4. Tin ore occurs in the Bastar region.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 1 is correct, (c) goes: it leaves 1 out.
What you needed to know: Bauxite occurs in Surguja and Jashpur.
- Then, if you were sure statement 4 is correct, (a) and (b) go: each of them leaves 4 out.
What you needed to know: Tin ore occurs in the Bastar region.
Only (d) is left. You didn’t need statements 2 or 3.
This follows an unofficial answer: UPSC has not published its key for this year, and if that answer is wrong, so is this path.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Leaves out tin ore, which occurs in Bastar.
- (b) Leaves out dolomite and tin ore.
- (c) Leaves out bauxite and iron ore, both important in the State.
- (d) All four minerals occur in Chhattisgarh.
