Question 140: Polity and Governance

For which one of the following reforms was a Commission set up under the Chairmanship of Veerappa Moily by the Government of India?

aPolice Reforms
bTax Reforms
cReforms in Technical Education
dAdministrative Reforms

AnswerThe answer is (d).

M. Veerappa Moily chaired the Second Administrative Reforms Commission, set up in 2005 by the Government of India to prepare a blueprint for revamping the public administration system. It submitted reports on subjects such as the right to information, ethics in governance, local governance and e-governance. The first such commission, in 1966, was headed by Morarji Desai.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Police reforms were looked at by other bodies, not the Moily commission.
  • (b) Tax reforms were looked at by other bodies, not the Moily commission.
  • (c) Technical education reform was not the Moily commission's task.
  • (d) The commission under Moily was about administrative reforms.
