Question 141: Logical Reasoning and Mental Ability
Six faces of a cube are numbered from 1 to 6, each face carrying one different number. Further,
- 1.The face 2 is opposite to the face 6.
- 2.The face 1 is opposite to the face 5.
- 3.The face 3 is between the face 1 and face 5.
- 4.The face 4 is adjacent to the face 2.
Which one of the following is correct?
AnswerThe answer is (a).
A cube has three pairs of opposite faces. The given facts make 2 opposite 6 and 1 opposite 5, so the last pair is 3 opposite 4. Face 2 is therefore opposite only 6, which makes it adjacent to 1, 5, 3 and 4. So 'face 2 is adjacent to face 3' is true. Face 6 is opposite 2, so it cannot lie between 2 and 4, and face 1 is opposite 5, so it cannot lie between 5 and 6.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Correct: 2 is opposite 6 only, so it touches 3.
- (b) 6 is opposite 2, so it cannot be between 2 and 4.
- (c) 1 is opposite 5, so it cannot be between 5 and 6.
- (d) Option (a) is true, so 'none' fails.
