Question 129: Science and Technology
Which one of the following pairs is not correctly matched?
aCosmic Background : Satellite Programme Explorer (COBE)
bFalcon : Under-sea cable system
cDiscovery : Space shuttle
dAtlantis : Space station
AnswerThe answer is (d).
Atlantis was a Space Shuttle orbiter, not a space station, so pair (d) is wrong. The other pairs are right: COBE was the Cosmic Background Explorer satellite, Falcon is an undersea cable system, and Discovery was a Space Shuttle. Remember: the shuttles were Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour; the stations were Skylab, Mir and the ISS.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Correctly matched: COBE was a NASA satellite.
- (b) Correctly matched: Falcon is an undersea cable system.
- (c) Correctly matched: Discovery was a Space Shuttle.
- (d) Not correctly matched: Atlantis was a Space Shuttle, not a space station.
