Question 124: Science and Technology
Which on the following is the correct sequence in order of decreasing length of the three structural parts given below of small intestine in the human body?
aJejunum – Duodenum – Ileum
bIleum – Duodenum – Jejunum
cJejunum – Ileum – Duodenum
dIleum – Jejunum – Duodenum
AnswerThe answer is (d).
The small intestine, about 6 m long, has three parts. The ileum is the longest (about 3.5 m), the jejunum is about 2.5 m, and the duodenum is the shortest at about 25 cm. So the decreasing order of length is ileum, jejunum, duodenum.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Puts the jejunum above the ileum; the ileum is longer.
- (b) Puts the duodenum above the jejunum; the duodenum is the shortest.
- (c) Puts the ileum below the jejunum; wrong.
- (d) Correct: ileum, jejunum, duodenum.
