Question 59: Geography
Consider the following statements :
- 1.Length of a terrestrial mile is lesser than that of a nautical mile.
- 2.Harmattan is a dusty land-wind of the East African Coast.
- 3.Greece and Albania form a part of the Iberian Peninsula.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct ?
AnswerThe answer is (d).
A statute (terrestrial) mile is about 1.61 km, while a nautical mile is 1.852 km, so a terrestrial mile is shorter and statement 1 is correct. The Harmattan is a dry, dusty north-easterly wind blowing over West Africa, not the East African coast, so statement 2 is wrong. Greece and Albania lie in the Balkan Peninsula, while the Iberian Peninsula holds Spain and Portugal, so statement 3 is wrong.
- 1. A terrestrial mile is about 1.61 km, shorter than the 1.852 km nautical mile.
- 2. The Harmattan blows over West Africa.
- 3. Greece and Albania are in the Balkan Peninsula.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Statements 2 and 3 are wrong.
- (b) Statements 2 and 3 are both false.
- (c) Statement 3 is false: Greece and Albania are Balkan.
- (d) Correct: only statement 1 is right.
