Question 33: Geography
Other than India and China, which of the following groups of countries border Myanmar?
aBangladesh, Thailand and Vietnam
bCambodia, Laos and Malaysia
cThailand, Vietnam and Malaysia
dThailand, Laos and Bangladesh
AnswerThe answer is (d).
Myanmar's land neighbours are Bangladesh and India to the west, China to the north-east, and Laos and Thailand to the east and south-east. Excluding India and China, that leaves Bangladesh, Laos and Thailand. Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia do not touch Myanmar: Vietnam lies beyond Laos, Cambodia beyond Thailand, and Malaysia lies further south beyond Thailand.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Vietnam does not border Myanmar.
- (b) Cambodia and Malaysia do not border Myanmar.
- (c) Vietnam and Malaysia do not border Myanmar.
- (d) Correct: Thailand, Laos and Bangladesh all share a border with Myanmar.
