Question 3: History and Culture

Match List – I with List – II and select the correct answer using the code given below the lists: List – I (Place of Archaeological Monument) A. Sisupalgarh B. Piprahwa C. Goalpara D. Bishnupur List – II (State) 1. Assam 2. Manipur 3. Orissa 4. Uttar Pradesh Code: A B C D

a4 1 3 2
b1 2 3 4
c3 4 1 2
d1 3 2 4

AnswerThe answer is (c).

Sisupalgarh, an early historic fortified town near Bhubaneswar, is in Odisha (Orissa in 2006). Piprahwa, with Buddhist stupa relics linked to the Sakya clan, is in Uttar Pradesh. Goalpara is in Assam, and Bishnupur, with its Vishnu temple, is in Manipur (not to be confused with Bishnupur in West Bengal, known for terracotta temples). That gives A-3, B-4, C-1, D-2, which is code (c).

  • A. Sisupalgarh is in Odisha (3).
  • B. Piprahwa is in Uttar Pradesh (4).
  • C. Goalpara is in Assam (1).
  • D. Bishnupur here is the Manipur site (2).
Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Puts Sisupalgarh in Uttar Pradesh and Piprahwa in Assam; only Bishnupur-Manipur is right.
  • (b) Every pair is wrong, starting with Sisupalgarh in Assam and Piprahwa in Manipur.
  • (c) Correct: Sisupalgarh-Orissa, Piprahwa-Uttar Pradesh, Goalpara-Assam, Bishnupur-Manipur.
  • (d) Every pair is wrong, starting with Sisupalgarh in Assam and Piprahwa in Orissa.
