Question 116: Geography
Recently Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the linking of two rivers as a link project. Which are these two rivers?
AnswerThe answer is (b).
In 2005 Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh signed a memorandum of understanding to link the Ken and Betwa rivers, a priority link under the national river-linking plan. Both rivers flow through the Bundelkhand region and the Betwa is a tributary of the Yamuna, while the Ken joins the Yamuna as well. The other pairs were not the subject of that MoU.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Betwa-Chambal was not the pair linked in the MoU.
- (b) Correct: the Ken-Betwa link.
- (c) Chambal-Son was not the pair linked in the MoU.
- (d) Ken-Narmada was not the pair linked in the MoU.
