Question 85: Science and Technology
Assertion (A): All the proteins in our food are digested in small intestine only. Reason (R): The protein-digesting enzymes from pancreas are released into small intestine.
AnswerThe answer is (d).
Protein digestion begins in the stomach, where pepsin acts in the acid medium, and finishes in the small intestine, so A is false. R is true: the pancreas releases trypsin and chymotrypsin into the small intestine, but that does not make A correct. Remember: pepsin in the stomach, trypsin in the intestine.
- A. Pepsin begins protein digestion in the stomach.
- R. Pancreatic trypsin and chymotrypsin act in the small intestine.
