Question 41: Geography
Which one of the following is the correct sequence of the given towns of Pakistan while moving from the North towards the South?
aIslamabad - Gujrawala - Peshawar - Multan
bPeshawar - Gujrawala - Multan - Islamabad
cPeshawar - Islamabad - Gujrawala - Multan
dIslamabad - Multan - Peshawar - Gujrawala
AnswerThe answer is (c).
Latitudes decide it: Peshawar is at about 34°N, Islamabad about 33.7°N, Gujranwala about 32.2°N and Multan about 30.2°N. Moving north to south, the order is Peshawar, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Multan. Islamabad lies just south-east of Peshawar, and Multan is in southern Punjab, the farthest south of the four.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Puts Islamabad before Peshawar; Peshawar is further north.
- (b) Puts Islamabad last; it is north of Gujranwala and Multan.
- (c) Correct: Peshawar, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Multan.
- (d) Puts Multan second; Multan is the southernmost.
