Question 61: Geography

Consider the following statements:

  1. 1.Mahadeo Hills
  2. 2.Sahyadri Parvat
  3. 3.Satpura Range What is the correct sequence of the above from the north to the south?
a1, 2, 3
b2, 1, 3
c1, 3, 2
d2, 3, 1

AnswerThe answer is (c).

From north to south the sequence is Mahadeo Hills, Satpura Range, then Sahyadri (the Western Ghats). The Mahadeo Hills lie in the northern part of the Satpura system in Madhya Pradesh, the Satpura range runs east-west south of the Narmada, and the Sahyadri runs down the west coast through Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala, so its bulk lies furthest south.

  • 1. The Mahadeo Hills are the northernmost of the three.
  • 2. The Sahyadri is the southernmost.
  • 3. The Satpura Range lies in between.
Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Puts the Sahyadri before the Satpura Range, which is wrong.
  • (b) Puts the Sahyadri north of the others, which is wrong.
  • (c) Correct: Mahadeo Hills, Satpura Range, Sahyadri.
  • (d) Puts the Sahyadri north of the Mahadeo Hills, which is wrong.
