- 2.National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Mohali
- 3.Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram
- 4.Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Gwalior
Select the correct answer using the codes given below:
AnswerThe answer is (a).
Statements 1, 2 and 3 are correct: the Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, NIPER at Mohali and the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute were each declared Institutes of National Importance by an Act of Parliament. The Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Gwalior, was then a deemed university, not set up by an Act of Parliament, so statement 4 is incorrect.
- 1. Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha was declared an Institute of National Importance by an Act.
- 2. NIPER was created by an Act of Parliament.
- 3. SCTIMST was declared an Institute of National Importance by an Act.
- 4. It was then a deemed university, not an Act-based national institute.
How you could have got this
- If you were sure statement 4 is not correct, (b), (c) and (d) go: each of them includes 4.
What you needed to know: It was then a deemed university, not an Act-based national institute.
Only (a) is left. You didn’t need statements 1, 2 or 3.
This follows an unofficial answer: UPSC has not published its key for this year, and if that answer is wrong, so is this path.
Which options go is worked out from UPSC’s key and the options, not by a model.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Correct: institutes 1, 2 and 3.
- (b) Leaves out two of the Act-based institutes and includes Gwalior.
- (c) Includes Gwalior and leaves out the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute.
- (d) Includes Gwalior, which was not set up by an Act of Parliament.
