Question 51: Geography

Latvia does not share its borders with which one of the following countries?

aRussia
bEstonia
cLithuania
dPoland

AnswerThe answer is (d).

Latvia borders Estonia to the north, Lithuania to the south, and Russia and Belarus to the east, with a coast on the Baltic Sea. Poland has no border with Latvia, because Lithuania lies between them; Poland's eastern neighbours are Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine and Russia's Kaliningrad. Remember Latvia's neighbours as Estonia, Russia, Belarus and Lithuania.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Russia borders Latvia in the east.
  • (b) Estonia borders Latvia in the north.
  • (c) Lithuania borders Latvia in the south.
  • (d) Correct: Poland does not border Latvia.
