Question 131: Geography
Which one of the following is the correct decreasing sequence in terms of the value (in rupees) of the minerals produced in India in the year 2002-03?
aMetallic minerals - Fuel minerals - Non-metallic minerals
bFuel minerals - Metallic minerals - Non-metallic minerals
cMetallic minerals - Non-metallic minerals - Fuel minerals
dFuel minerals - Non-metallic minerals - Metallic minerals
AnswerThe answer is (b).
In 2002-03 fuel minerals (petroleum, natural gas, coal and lignite) were by far the largest in value of mineral output, followed by metallic minerals, with non-metallic minerals in third place. Petroleum and natural gas carry very large value, which is why fuel minerals lead.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Metallic minerals did not lead in value.
- (b) Correct: fuel, then metallic, then non-metallic.
- (c) Metallic minerals did not lead in value.
- (d) Non-metallic minerals ranked last, not second.
