Question 75: Economy and Social Development
Which one among the following countries has the lowest GDP per capita?
aChina
bIndia
cIndonesia
dSri Lanka
AnswerThe answer is (b).
India had the lowest per capita GDP of the four at the time of the question. China, Indonesia and Sri Lanka were all ahead of it in nominal terms. A very large population and a low average income explain India's position; use the latest World Bank or IMF figures for such comparisons, since rankings shift as economies grow.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) China's per capita GDP was higher than India's.
- (b) Correct: India was the lowest of the four.
- (c) Indonesia's per capita GDP was higher than India's.
- (d) Sri Lanka's per capita GDP was higher than India's.
