AnswerThe answer is (a).
The east-flowing peninsular rivers, from north to south, run Subarnarekha, Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna, Pennar, Cauvery and Vaigai. The Pennar lies between the Krishna and the Cauvery, and the Vaigai is the southernmost of the group. Remember: Subarnarekha (Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal), Mahanadi (Odisha), then Godavari, Krishna and Pennar, then Tamil Nadu's Cauvery and Vaigai.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Right: Subarnarekha, Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna, Pennar, Cauvery, Vaigai.
- (b) Omits the Krishna and puts the Pennar last, after the Vaigai.
- (c) Puts the Mahanadi before the Subarnarekha, which lies further north.
- (d) Reverses the Mahanadi and Subarnarekha, and the Godavari and Krishna, and puts the Pennar last.
