Question 83: History and Culture
The Mongols under Genghis Khan invaded India during the reign of
aBalban
bFeroze Tughlaq
cIltutmish
dMuhammad bin Tughlaq
AnswerThe answer is (c).
The Mongols under Genghis Khan reached the Indus in 1221 while chasing the Khwarazmian prince Jalaluddin Mangbarni, who sought refuge in India. Iltutmish, the Delhi Sultan then, refused to shelter him and so kept the Mongols out. Balban, Feroze Tughlaq and Muhammad bin Tughlaq ruled later. Remember Iltutmish as the Sultan of Genghis Khan's time.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Balban ruled in the later 13th century and faced later Mongol raids.
- (b) Feroze Tughlaq ruled in the 14th century.
- (c) Right: Iltutmish.
- (d) Muhammad bin Tughlaq ruled in the 14th century.
