Question 6: History and Culture
A London branch of the All-India Muslim League was established in 1908 under the presidency of
aAgha Khan
bAmeer Ali
cLiaquat Ali Khan
dM. A. Jinnah
AnswerThe answer is (b).
Syed Ameer Ali, the jurist and historian, headed the London branch of the All-India Muslim League when it was set up in 1908. He had earlier founded the Central National Muhammadan Association in Calcutta (1877). The League itself was founded in Dhaka in 1906 with the Aga Khan as its leader, and Jinnah joined it only in 1913. Remember Ameer Ali with the London branch.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) The Aga Khan led the League at its founding in 1906, but the London branch was headed by Ameer Ali.
- (b) Right: Ameer Ali was president of the London branch.
- (c) Liaquat Ali Khan rose to prominence much later.
- (d) Jinnah did not join the League until 1913.
