Question 48: Science and Technology

The range of Agni-II missile is around

a500 km
b2000 km
c3500 km
d5000 km

AnswerThe answer is (b).

Agni-II is an intermediate-range ballistic missile with a range of about 2,000 km (some sources say more), first tested in April 1999. It is a two-stage solid-fuel missile that can carry a nuclear warhead. Agni-I has a much shorter range, and the longer-range Agni-III, IV and V came later. Remember Agni-II as the 2,000 km missile.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) 500 km is too short for Agni-II.
  • (b) Right: about 2,000 km.
  • (c) About 3,500 km is the range of later versions such as Agni-III.
  • (d) About 5,000 km is the range of Agni-V, which came much later.
