bCauvery basin
cMahanadi basin
dPalar-Pennar basin
AnswerThe answer is (a).
The Ravva block lies offshore in the Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Andhra Pradesh near the Godavari delta, and belongs to the Krishna-Godavari basin, India's main petroleum basin on the east coast. Remember the east-coast basins from north to south: Mahanadi, Krishna-Godavari, Palar-Pennar, then Cauvery.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Right. Ravva is an offshore block of the Krishna-Godavari basin.
- (b) Wrong. The Cauvery basin lies off Tamil Nadu, further south.
- (c) Wrong. The Mahanadi basin lies off Odisha, to the north.
- (d) Wrong. Palar-Pennar lies between the Krishna-Godavari and Cauvery basins.
