Question 92: Environment and Ecology
‘Eco mark’ is given to the Indian products that are
apure and unadulterated
brich in proteins
cenvironment friendly
deconomically viable
AnswerThe answer is (c).
The Ecomark is a labelling scheme launched by the Government of India in 1991, run with the Bureau of Indian Standards, for consumer products that meet environmental criteria, that is products that are environment friendly. It does not certify purity, nutrition or economic viability. Remember the similar ISI mark for quality and the Agmark for agricultural produce.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Purity of agricultural produce is marked by Agmark, not Ecomark.
- (b) Protein content is not what Ecomark certifies.
- (c) Right: Ecomark certifies environment-friendly products.
- (d) Economic viability is not what Ecomark certifies.
