Question 37: Geography
Which one of the following pairs of cities has recently been connected through a 6-lane express way?
AnswerThe answer is (c).
The Islamabad-Lahore Motorway (M-2), opened in November 1997, is a six-lane controlled-access expressway of over 350 km, the first major motorway in Pakistan. At the time India's Mumbai-Pune expressway was still being built and was opened only in 2002, and no six-lane expressway linked Dhaka and Chittagong. Hence the pair connected by a six-lane expressway at that date is Islamabad and Lahore.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Ahmedabad-Vadodara had no six-lane expressway at that time.
- (b) Dhaka-Chittagong had no six-lane expressway at that time.
- (c) Right: the Islamabad-Lahore motorway was six-lane and opened in 1997.
- (d) The Mumbai-Pune expressway opened in 2002.
