aGoa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala
bMadhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala
cTamil Nadu, Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra
dGujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu
AnswerThe answer is (a).
The Konkan Railway runs about 760 km from Roha in Maharashtra to Mangalore in Karnataka, passing through Goa, and opened for through traffic in 1998. It shortens the west-coast route between Mumbai and the south, linking up with Kerala, so Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala benefit most. Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat are not on the route.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Right: the line runs through Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka and links to Kerala.
- (b) Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are away from the west-coast route.
- (c) Tamil Nadu is not on the west-coast route.
- (d) Gujarat and Tamil Nadu are not on the Konkan route.
