Question 118: Science and Technology
Match List I with List II and select the correct answer using the codes given below the lists: List I I. Fruit II. Seed III. Wood IV. Starch List II A) Ovule B) Leaf C) Stem D) Ovary
AnswerThe answer is (b).
A fruit develops from the ovary of the flower, and a seed from the ovule. Wood is the hardened tissue (secondary xylem) of the stem, and starch is made and stored mainly from the sugar produced in the leaf by photosynthesis. So I-D, II-A, III-C, IV-B. Option E in the codes of (a) does not exist in List II.
- I. A fruit develops from the ovary (D).
- II. A seed develops from the ovule (A).
- III. Wood comes from the stem (C).
- IV. Starch is made in the leaf (B).
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Refers to an item (E) not in List II.
- (b) Right: fruit-ovary, seed-ovule, wood-stem, starch-leaf.
- (c) Fruit comes from the ovary, not the leaf, and seed is not from the stem.
- (d) Seed is from the ovule, not the stem, and wood is not from the ovule.
