Question 50: Geography

Which of the following places are known for paper manufacturing industry? I. Yamuna Nagar II. Guwahati III. Shahabad IV. Ballarpur Choose the correct answer using the codes given below: Codes:

aI, II and III
bI, II and IV
cI, III and IV
dII, III and IV

AnswerThe answer is (b).

The key counts Yamunanagar (Haryana), Guwahati (Assam) and Ballarpur (Maharashtra) as paper-making places, and leaves out Shahabad. Ballarpur is a well-known paper-mill centre, and Yamunanagar has a paper industry cluster. Paper needs raw material such as bamboo, wood pulp, grasses or waste paper, and plenty of water, so mills cluster near forests or markets.

  • I. Yamunanagar in Haryana has a paper industry.
  • II. Guwahati is counted by the key as a paper-making place.
  • III. Shahabad is not on the key's list.
  • IV. Ballarpur in Maharashtra is a well-known paper-mill centre.
Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Includes Shahabad and leaves out Ballarpur, a well-known paper centre.
  • (b) Right: Yamunanagar, Guwahati and Ballarpur.
  • (c) Includes Shahabad and leaves out Guwahati.
  • (d) Includes Shahabad and leaves out Yamunanagar.

Worth knowing: I could not independently confirm Shahabad's exclusion or Guwahati's inclusion; the answer follows the key's list.
