Question 11: Geography

“……….They are people of yellow complexion, oblique eyes, high cheek bones, sparse hair and medium height.” The reference here is to

aNordic Aryans
bAustric
cNegroids
dMongoloids

AnswerThe answer is (d).

A yellowish complexion, slanting eyes, prominent cheekbones, scanty body hair and medium height make up the classic description of the Mongoloid racial type. In India these groups are found chiefly in the Himalayan belt and the north-east. Nordic Aryans are tall, fair and long-headed, Negroids have dark skin and woolly hair, and the Austric (Proto-Australoid) stock is dark with wavy hair.

Why each option is right or wrong
  • (a) Nordic types are tall, fair-skinned and light-eyed, not yellowish with slanting eyes.
  • (b) Austric (Proto-Australoid) groups are dark-skinned with wavy hair and broad noses.
  • (c) Negroid peoples have dark skin, woolly hair and thick lips.
  • (d) Right: yellowish skin, slanting eyes and high cheekbones describe the Mongoloids.
