Question 77: International Relations and Current Affairs
Which one of the following countries had in 1994 voted against joining the European Union?
aNorway

AnswerThe answer is (a).
In the referendums of 1994 on joining the European Union, Austria, Finland and Sweden voted yes, while Norway voted no in November 1994, as it had done in 1972. The three that voted yes joined on 1 January 1995. Remember: Norway said no in 1972 and again in 1994, and has stayed out.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) Right: Norway voted no in 1994.
- (b) Sweden voted yes and joined in 1995.
- (c) Finland voted yes and joined in 1995.
- (d) Austria voted yes and joined in 1995.
