Question 124: Environment and Ecology
The only snake that builds a nest is
aChain viper
bKing Cobra
cKrait
dSaw scaled viper
AnswerThe answer is (b).
The king cobra is the only snake that builds a nest. The female collects dry leaves and twigs into a mound, lays her eggs in it, and stays near it guarding the eggs until they hatch. The chain viper, krait and saw-scaled viper do not build nests. Remember: king cobra, the nest builder.
Why each option is right or wrong
- (a) The chain viper gives birth to live young and builds no nest.
- (b) Right: the king cobra.
- (c) Kraits lay eggs but do not build nests.
- (d) Saw-scaled vipers give birth to live young and build no nest.
