Body · points
Growth Story so far.
(1) Opening up of mega food parks - Eg: Avanti Park Indore. (2) PM - SAMPADA scheme promoted food parks in Tier-II and III cities → Regional development. (3) Improved farm incomes. (₹ 3,200 p.m. in 2012 to ₹ 6000 p.m. in 2019).
Immense potential to unlock.
(1) Post harvest waste stands at 25-30% (Ashok Dalwai)
→ Food processing can reduce it.
(2) Scope for value addition eg: Polishing, primary processing and canned preservation. eg: Raw fish ~ ₹80/kg Canned fish ₹300/kg.
(3) Farm to factory linkages are still poor. eg: Distress selling Tomatoes @ ₹ 1/kg in November
(4) Only 0.8% share in export market. → Issue of Sanitary & Phytosanitary measures.
Way forward → Quality Improvement → Branding eg: "Vindhya Herbals" → Use of Tech eg: Ninja cart collects fruit from Farm Gate for jam making.
