- Why in news
- On 25 June 2026, MoSPI released its May 2026 Flash Report. PAIMANA now tracks 1,987 Central Sector infrastructure projects worth ₹42.50 lakh crore.
- What it is
- PAIMANA is a web portal run by MoSPI to monitor Central Sector infrastructure projects costing ₹150 crore and above. It works on a 'one data, one entry' principle and is linked by APIs to DPIIT's IPMP portal. MoSPI publishes a monthly Flash Report from its data.
- Who runs it
- PAIMANA is a centralised portal of MoSPI for projects of ₹150 crore and above.
- How data is entered
- It follows 'one data, one entry' and links to DPIIT's IPMP portal through APIs, which auto-update over 70% of project data.
- Scale in May 2026
- 1,987 ongoing projects, revised cost ₹42.50 lakh crore, are tracked across 17 Central Ministries/Departments.
- Spending
- Cumulative spending is ₹21.82 lakh crore, about 51.34% of revised cost.
- Top ministry
- Road Transport & Highways has the most projects: 1,149 (58%), costing ₹10.95 lakh crore.
- Top sector
- Transport & Logistics (DEA Harmonized Master List) has 1,476 projects and 55% of revised cost.
Don’t confuse with PAIMANA vs IPMP: PAIMANA is MoSPI's monitoring portal; IPMP is DPIIT's portal that feeds it data through APIs.
Reports and indices: 14 Prelims questions since 2013; they test who publishes a report and what it measures.
Why it matters
- Single source of project data supports timely reviews and better decisions across ministries.
Problems
- Cost and time overruns need tracking: only about 51% of revised cost is spent, and many projects are at early stages.
Way forward
- Use the data for regular reviews to resolve delays and keep revised costs in check.

No practice question for this one; the card may still help an answer. Why: Monitoring platform for central projects of Rs 150 crore and above; routine data release, low chance of a question.
Worth revising until Prelims 2028: most news questions come within two years of the event.
