- Why in news
- On 17 August 2026, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 3rd Apex Monitoring Authority meeting of NICDIT in New Delhi. It reviewed NICDP projects and the rollout of the new BHAVYA scheme for industrial parks.
- What it is
- The National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) is the Centre's programme to build planned industrial nodes and smart cities along freight and transport corridors. NICDIT is the Trust that supports trunk infrastructure in these nodes, and NICDC is the SPV that develops projects with States. Both work under DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
- Coverage
- NICDP covers 20 approved projects in 13 States across 7 Industrial Corridors.
- Smart cities in production
- Dholera, Shendra-Bidkin, Greater Noida and Vikram Udyogpuri have reached the production stage.
- NICDIT
- NICDIT is a Trust of the Government of India under DPIIT for coordinated development of industrial corridors. Under BHAVYA, central equity and SPV participation is routed through it.
- NICDC
- NICDC is an SPV under DPIIT that develops corridor projects. It is the Project Management Agency for BHAVYA.
Don’t confuse with NICDIT vs NICDC: NICDIT is the Trust that supports trunk infrastructure and routes central equity. NICDC is the SPV that develops projects and coordinates with States.
Schemes: 52 Prelims questions since 2013, 10 in Prelims 2026 alone. They test features, the period and who funds it. In Mains, 33 news-triggered questions, mostly GS3.
Why it matters
- Planned industrial nodes with logistics links support manufacturing growth and jobs.
- Alignment with PM GatiShakti improves integrated infrastructure planning.
Problems
- Land, connectivity, utilities and clearance bottlenecks delay projects.
- State agencies often do not give project SPVs adequate planning and municipal powers.
Way forward
- Move focus from approvals to completion, allotment, investment and production.
- Empower SPVs and provide worker housing and social amenities in industrial areas.

No practice question for this one; the card may still help an answer. Why: Lasting industrial corridor programme and trust; meeting gave no new provisions. Schemes are 16% of Prelims news questions, but facts here are thin.
Worth revising until Prelims 2028: most news questions come within two years of the event.
