- Why in news
- On 25 February 2026, Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav inaugurated TERI's Silver Jubilee World Sustainable Development Summit and the Ministry's Him-CONNECT platform for Himalayan research.
- What it is
- Him-CONNECT is a platform of the Environment Ministry. It aims to turn research supported under the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS) into solutions that can be used at scale. It connects researchers with start-ups, industry, investors, development agencies and policymakers.
- Purpose
- Him-CONNECT is meant to connect Himalayan researchers with start-ups, industry leaders, investors and policymakers.
- Link to NMHS
- The platform is to turn research supported under the National Mission on Himalayan Studies into solutions that can be implemented at scale.
- India's climate goals
- India's stated goals include 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030, a 45% cut in emissions intensity of GDP from 2005 levels by 2030, and net-zero by 2070.
- Global Stocktake
- The first Global Stocktake under the Paris Agreement found the world is not on track to limit warming to 1.5°C.
Don’t confuse with NMHS vs Him-CONNECT: NMHS is the Ministry's mission that funds Himalayan research. Him-CONNECT is a platform to take that research to users and investors.
Don’t confuse with TERI vs MoEFCC: WSDS is organised by TERI, a research institute. Him-CONNECT is organised by the Ministry within the summit.
Environment: Prelims tests bodies, programmes and the law behind them; Mains asks why plans fall short.
Why it matters
- Links Himalayan research to markets and policy, so findings reach use.
- Puts local innovation from mountain states in front of investors.
Problems
- Turning research into viable products needs funding and market access in remote hill regions.
- Himalayan ecosystems face climate stress that outpaces slow research-to-use cycles.
Way forward
- Follow up exhibitions with funding and incubation for selected solutions.
- Involve local communities in design and use of solutions.

No practice question for this one; the card may still help an answer. Why: New MoEFCC platform linking Himalayan research to industry under the existing NMSHE; few testable facts, so card only.
