- Why in news
- On 16 June 2026, Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a review meeting in New Delhi and said the Delhi Slum and JJ Cluster Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, 2026 was finalised. Delhi's government was told to notify it soon and to start PPP tenders.
- Policy status
- The policy was finalised at the review meeting. The Delhi Government is to notify it at the earliest.
- Pace of PPP projects
- Delhi Government is to issue tenders for at least 5 PPP-based rehabilitation projects every month.
- Community facilities
- Rehabilitation colonies must have Anganwadi centres, schools, health centres and playgrounds.
Don’t confuse with DDA vs DUSIB: DDA is the Delhi's central-government planning and land-owning authority. DUSIB is the Delhi government's board for slum and JJ cluster improvement and rehabilitation.
Don’t confuse with JJ cluster rehabilitation vs PMAY-Urban: This policy is specific to Delhi's JJ clusters. PMAY-Urban is a national housing scheme that also covers in-situ slum redevelopment.
Schemes: 52 Prelims questions since 2013, 10 in Prelims 2026 alone. They test features, the period and who funds it. In Mains, 33 news-triggered questions, mostly GS3.
Why it matters
- Gives about 4 lakh families a path to formal housing with basic services.
- Using PPP can bring private finance and speed to slum redevelopment on public land.
Problems
- Cut-off dates can leave out later residents and cause disputes over eligibility.
- PPP projects depend on land value and developer interest, and risk delays or displacement away from livelihoods.
Way forward
- Notify the policy quickly with clear eligibility checks and a grievance process.
- Prefer in-situ rehabilitation near workplaces and monitor timelines and quality of colonies.

No practice question for this one; the card may still help an answer. Why: Lasting urban housing policy, but it is a city-level policy with few testable facts; news-set Mains questions on schemes are mostly national.
Worth revising until Prelims 2028: most news questions come within two years of the event.
