- Why in news
- On 26 July 2026, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs reported an awareness webinar on the Corporate Mitra Scheme, held by IICA Shillong for Arunachal Pradesh. Registration for the course runs from 15 July to 31 July 2026.
- What it is
- Corporate Mitra is a Ministry of Corporate Affairs scheme to train young graduates as accredited para-professionals. They give MSMEs low-cost help with compliance, accounting, tax and governance. The aim is to cut the compliance burden on small firms, mainly in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, and to create jobs.
- Target
- The initial target is 2000 participants across India. 200 of them are reserved for the North East.
- NER fee concession
- Candidates from the North East get a 50% fee concession.
- Nodal agency for NER
- IICA Shillong, under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, coordinates the rollout in the North East with State Governments and other stakeholders.
- Services offered
- Corporate Mitras handle non-core tasks of MSMEs: regulatory, compliance, financial, taxation, accounting and governance needs.
- Registration window
- Registration for the course opened on 15 July 2026 and closes on 31 July 2026.
Don’t confuse with Corporate Mitra vs Business Correspondent: Corporate Mitra gives compliance and business support to MSMEs. A bank business correspondent offers banking services at the village level.
Schemes: 52 Prelims questions since 2013, 10 in Prelims 2026 alone. They test features, the period and who funds it. In Mains, 33 news-triggered questions, mostly GS3.
Why it matters
- Lowers the compliance cost for small firms and supports ease of doing business.
- Creates employment for young graduates, especially in the North East and smaller cities.
Problems
- Quality and trust: para-professionals must be accredited and credible next to CAs, CSs and CMAs.
- Small firms may be unwilling to pay for services, or may not know about them.
Way forward
- Keep accreditation standards strict and monitor service quality.
- Spread awareness through industry bodies and state governments, and expand beyond the initial 2000 target.

No practice question for this one; the card may still help an answer. Why: Ministry of Corporate Affairs scheme to give MSMEs trained para-professionals for compliance. Worth a card; the release is only an awareness webinar with few testable facts.
Worth revising until Prelims 2028: most news questions come within two years of the event.
